In the opening scene, a frantic Norwegian man is shooting at a sled dog. To English-speaking audiences, he just sounds crazy. However, his dialogue is actual Norwegian: "Se til helvete og kom dere vekk! Det er ikke en bikkje, det er en slags ting! Det imiterer en bikkje!" This translates exactly to: "Get the hell away! It's not a dog, it's some sort of thing! It's imitating a dog!" John Carpenter hid the twist of the entire movie in the first three minutes, decoding it only for those who speak the language.
