To give the groundbreaking slow-motion "bullet time" its signature acoustic punch, sound designer Dane Davis went completely analog. He literally tied real bullets and metallic slugs to strings and whirled them around in a studio, recording the sound of the metal slicing through the air. They then digitally manipulated and layered those organic whooshes to create the hyper-realistic, tearing sound of a bullet flying past Neo's ear.
