Director Ridley Scott wanted a surreal, membrane-like layer of light covering the xenomorph eggs in the derelict ship. The production team couldn't figure out how to do it practically until they noticed the rock band The Who rehearsing in the soundstage right next door. They temporarily borrowed the band's state-of-the-art blue concert lasers, creating one of the most iconic atmospheric shots in sci-fi horror history without using any computer graphics.
